1941 Sailboat Race Real Photo Signed to Competitor

I was excited to stumble onto this, real photo sailboat race (8×10 sight on 11×15 framed sheet) signed “N – Just to thank you for being a stout fellow and a good agrivator on many a good race, The Finnish W. E. Special Aug 2-41.”  I BELIEVE that’s what the last two lines say and I believe that it is either signed Jimy or Joey beside that.  Worth the research. Original Framing, never been apart – Keystone Framing, Pittsburgh PA sticker on the back from the 40s.

World War I Curtiss Jenny Paragon Propeller Trophy

Straight from a Vandergrift PA estate, brought back (so the story goes) from Germany – after crashing in Germany, cut at the middle and chopped at the end.  Looks like it was done at the time, and rigged to hang on an old chain.   Made by Paragon in Baltimore, MD – the markings I can make out are “6576″, “1780″, AID C2 in a circle, 8′3 x 5.00 and “right hand.”  Very nice condition with a few scuffs and one limited crack at the cut (not deep).

1909 Rare Antique School of Taxidermy Diploma License

Just fantastic, I’ve never seen one before – for all of you collecting antique taxidermy, here’s a killer companion piece. Diplmoma issued Dec 10, 1909 in Omaha Nebraska.  In the far left corner is a gold seal that reads “The Northwestern School / Corporate Seal of Taxidermy” and a 1″ tall photo of the graduate attached to the diploma.  Buck engraving at the center with “School of Taxidermy: Taxidermy Taught in all its Branches” motto atop. Incredible condition, largely clean and without flakes/cracks/or loss – just a few small stains, see photo.  Frame is in perfect shape, never taken apart (the backing paper has been taped – nothing else).  Measures 15.5 x 18.5″.  Even without a taxidermy collection, this is perfect Victorian goth or steampunk decor – scarce.

c1940s Earl Moran Pin Up Blotter Yard Long Collage

Twenty three pin up blotters, matchbook covers and greeting card fronts – all but one by Earl Moran, collaged together in a yard long frame sometime contemporary to the pieces themselves.  Just a killer piece, you never see these.  Original back has been secured with a few modern nails at one corner, untouched otherwise.  Measures 8×39″.

Professional framing (with acid free photo corner secured) of eight different Withers pin up blotters from the early 60s. Red mat, modern black frame – sleek and attractive. Measures 17×33″.

I love doing these “yardlongs” of pin up girlies from the 50s/60s…they hang in many a den, tattoo shop and vintage clothing store.  Great graphic and splash of color for not much output – but until recently (when I bought one from the 40s) I had no idea this was a vintage concept, just makes it cooler.  Professional framing (with acid free photo corner secured)  of eight different Withers pin up blotters from the early 60s.  Red mat, modern black frame – sleek and attractive.  Measures 17×33″.

1950s Salesman Sample Butcher Meat Cuts

All these ever make me thing of are the shocking red and white meat cuts that Mark Ryden likes to juxtapose with Lincoln’s image.  I adore these butchers’ props/salesman samples.  Obviously from the 1950s, they are made of plaster and then painted (looks like airbrushed) with a million shades of white/cream/red paint.  T Bone and an Eye of Round I’d guess.  Round is 6″ x 7″ x 3″H and T Bone is 3 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ x 6 1/2″H.  Great condition, one or two tiny flakes to the paint – nothing more.

1960s Inuit Eskimo Alaska Female Photograph Signed

Found in Southwestern PA, I am offering two female portraits (appear to be 1960s, perhaps 50s) in two different auctions this week.  This photo is the larger of the two, measures 15.5″ x 18.5″  and is signed by Byron Hale (a nationally recognized photographer – recognized for one pivotal WWII photo and many a geographical survey photo of the Arctic ranging from the 1950s-70s.)  She is titled “Kotzebue Belle” and a quick google look up tells me that Kotzebue lies 33 miles north of the Arctic Circle.  Not much else to be said, this is a stunning and large example of an incredibly rare subject matter – and to top it off, she’s beautiful.  Photo is in extremely good condition, there is a bit of staining through the fur (a bit of glue bleed from his mount I believe) that hardly detracts.

c1940s Moravian Leaded Glass Star Lantern 24″

I’m excited to offer this, getting incredibly hard to come by – Moravian Star Lamp, in the 24″ size.  I’ve looked all over it and there is one 1″ crack on one panel, and there is a bit of “bending” (lack of a better word) to one brass point (see photo #3, incredibly hard to describe).  Point being, its in phenomenal shape.  It is original condition, I haven’t even had time to clean it!  It is not wired, but easily can be – there is a cone waiting to take a socket/a hole to feed the wire through and a pinch on the “neck” to hold a clamp/chain to hang.  So it needs that $25.00 worth of work at a repair shop.  One point is hinged (photo 7) to allow entry to wire and change the bulb.  Just drop dead beautiful, I haven’t owned one this large – its impressive.  The only online comparisons are for new copies, and they retail at $1100 and come only as large as 15″.

Object Art – Tokio Cigarette Native American Indian Silks

Framed Object Art of fifteen Tokio Cigarette Silks (circa 1920) American Indians.  Each measures approximately 2 1/4″ x 3″ and the fifteen are matted into forest green acid free mat and framed in a dark gold Victorian moulding.  Overall size is approx. 19″ x 31″ – the colors are stunning, with just a touch of unraveling at the edges (typical, they were never bound at the edges).  Perfect for a cabin or the like.

1801-4 Nicolas Marechal / Simon Miger La Menagerie du Museum National d’ Histoire Naturelle Viverra Civetta (African Civet) Engraving

c1800 (1801-04 La Menagerie du Museum National d’ Histoire Naturelle publications, compiled by Bernard-Germain-Étienne de La Ville-sur-Illon) of Nicolas Marechal (artist) / Simon Miger (engraver) Viverra Civetta – African Civet.  Large folio, overall sheet size is approx 15″ x 20″ – framed in oatmeal colored 8 ply rag mat (archival, museum quality) with thick Walnut Burl/gold detailing frame.  Sight size as matted is approx 11 1/2″ x 15 1/2″, overall the piece now measures 22″ x 25″.  Print is original, beautiful cotton rag paper.  Rare print from a famous volume in French Naturalism.  The condition is shown in the photos, there is a pervasive water stain at the bottom right (roughly 5″ in diamter) and a smaller waterstain in the top right margin (1 1/2″ round perhaps).  Slight crease approx 2/3 down the print and across.  The framing is archival and ready to hang (some slight imperfections in the frame – that’s why I was able to afford to use it, hugely expensive Burl moulding.)
