c1920 Palmistry Mel – Roy Broadside Quack Medicine

Mel-Roy PsD, MsD “Apostle of Mental Science” was a traveling lecturer on the science of dreams and palmistry, and other paranormal during the teens and twenties in the US.  I have come across the books that he sold his patrons, but I have never seen this poster – unclear whether the poster itself was sold for the purchase price at the bottom or if it advertised a book on palmistry.  The reverse is advertising for gazing crystals (crystal balls), $4.00 each and for his famous “Book of Dreams”.  Measures 10×17″ with four folds and minimal wear otherwise.  Would look remarkable framed for any collector of the metaphysical / snake oil quack medicine.

1873 Human Science of Phrenology OS Fowler Illustrated

O.S. Fowler “Human Science or Phrenology”, 1873, National Publishing Company.  Quarter bound leather, measures 6″ x 9″, 1210 pages – dozens of wood cut engraving illustrations.  Because of the size of the book, the spine (the leather spine, not the binding) has let go.  It is included, chipped at the top – but ready to be reglued in place, but is not currently attached.  Please see photos and email with questions, rare edition on a rare subject.

3′ c1940s Plaster Crocodile Fossil Snout & Jaw Casting

Plaster casting of a Crocodile’s jaw/snout that measures 31″ long by 10″ wide and approx 10″ tall.  It appears to be from the 1930s or 40s based on the paint and the aging. I was told that it was de-accessioned at auction by a local college, with a fine history.  There is very little damage to it given the age, just some very minor chipping (mostly just to the paint, not to plaster itself in most cases) along the edges.  Incredible piece for scientific study (it gives the same sense of utter terror that standing in front of it at a museum might, to imagine what size the creature was that this would have belonged to — is wholly frightening) or just as great old mad scientist gothic decor (I will admit, that if this does not sell – it might be doing that right here in my home)…this is a once in a life time piece.  Does have a museum or college collection number painted on the jaw.

1934 G.D. Guibor Stereoscopic Eye Vision Chart Kit

This is an incredible kit of “Stereoscopic Charts for Adults and Children” by G.D. Guibor, dated 1934.  Full set of 62 cards, plus 14 normal sized stereocards – some in black and white, others in color.  Some are very obviously for adults and others have arts and crafts style characters and icons on them for children.  Everything is in nice condition, includes original instruction booklet and oilcloth case.  Case has some spotting and is torn at one corner.
