1912 James Corbett – Gentleman Jim Boxing Bio

Published by Richard K. Fox.  Incredibly scarce book, but in place holder condition.  The spine was early ruined and taped with Christmas tape (probably in the 20s), soiled, loose cover with chipping to bottom edge of pages, 110 pages, missing back cover (replaced with an old picture easel.)  When you see a book as infrequently as I see this one, any copy is worth owning – and is of course still perfectly readable as a reference source. 1941 Sailboat Race Real Photo Signed to Competitor

I was excited to stumble onto this, real photo sailboat race (8×10 sight on 11×15 framed sheet) signed “N – Just to thank you for being a stout fellow and a good agrivator on many a good race, The Finnish W. E. Special Aug 2-41.”  I BELIEVE that’s what the last two lines say and I believe that it is either signed Jimy or Joey beside that.  Worth the research. Original Framing, never been apart – Keystone Framing, Pittsburgh PA sticker on the back from the 40s.

1930’s Jack Dempsey Grocery Store Cereal Endorsement Standee Photo

1930’s 8×10 photo from a Sunshine Krispy Crackers (and other brands by the same manufacturer) grocery store interior display shot, beautiful photo – with five Jack Dempsey displays in view – three of Dempsey in a boxing pose and uniform and two in a suit teaching two youngsters.  Dempsey advertising appears clear as day.

1882 Princeton University Boxing Trophy Cup Beer Stein

I am happy to offer this piece of incredible rarity.  Unclear as to whether it is pewter or silverplate (my vote is pewter) 1/2 pint beer stein with a glass bottom – measures 4″ high by 2 1/2″ in diameter (not including handle).  The engraving reads “P.A.A.A. Middle Weight Sparring March 15th, 1882″  and on the next panel: Tracy H. Harris.  An investigation in the 19thc New York Times archives shows that Tracy H. Harris was a freshman at Princeton in 1882 and was named the Captain of the football team there during his junior year in 1884, he stayed influential in the making of sports decisions as an alum and is noted in a meeting as to building a football training center at the university in 1896 in another article.  It is most likely that the “P.A.A.A.” league that originally issued this trophy cup is Princeton Amateur Athletic Association.  Please feel free to do your own research, but this is my conclusion after a nice amount of research.  The condition is very nice, uncleaned – the glass bottom of the stein is cracked, but otherwise – exceptional condition for its age.  Please see photos and email with questions, with this subject matter and age – this is an exciting piece.

1960 Pirates World Champions Set

Published by Ford Motor Company in 1961 to celebrate the Pirates World Series win – these prints were given to car buyers that year (I believe Clemente had an endorsement deal with Ford that year too) in sets.  Seven pieces including six framed to 17″ x 21″: “Groat Cuts Down a Brave Steal,” “The Law,” “Bob Friend Comes in with the Fast One,” “Clemente Lines Over Second,” “Maz Gets the Big Hit,” and “Hoak Handles a Hot Shot at Third.”  “Danny Murtaugh” is framed to 20″ x 29″ as the centerpiece, giving the coach some credit!  Each is double matted in Pirates black and gold and framed in stepped black moulding, ready to hang – the set together gets a whole wall of a den, bar, restaurant or office done in one fell swoop.

40s Jackie Wilson Pittsburgh Exhibit Supply Boxing Card

Wow. This is just a scarce card.  NBA Featherweight champion (somewhere in the 1942-46 mess).  Record: won 101 (KO 20) + lost 45 (KO 6) + drawn 8 = 155.  Managed by Jack Laken.  Card presents very nicely, the top right and bottom left corner have slight stubs and the top left has a small (1/4″ or less) water stain – image is clear.

1930s Female Basketball Player RPPC – Memento to her Coach

What a terribly cool piece, a female basketball player in uniform – posed with the ball in her hand, AZO RPPC.  The front is inscribed “I will always remember my dear coach and friend, Miss WItherow. Please think of me a little, Shanty.”  On the reverse is written “Miss WItherow.”  A memento to her coach as she graduated, most likely, how rare a subject matter can you get?

1900 Cupid with Baseball Catcher’s Mitt Postcard Framed

One of the oddest baseball “comic” postcards that I’ve ever seen, a gorgeous little cherubim with a catcher’s mitt on one hand.  Trimmed in red and blue, framed in the same – archivally, acid free in a gold gilt frame.  Perfect Valentines day gift for the 19thc baseball enthusiast, yes there are a few out there;)

c1910 Baseball Program Advertising for Butler & Kelly Co New York

Gorgeous July 4th flag and embossed gold eagle, shields and ribbons all decorate the cover; in red, white and blue.  This piece is actually a collage of two advertising pamplets.  The inside reads “Hurrah for the Fourth of July from Butler & Kelley Company, 26 Beekman Street, New York City.  This is an advertising piece available to the “trade only” and offers “Folder, Ball Programs, Tickets, Invitations…etc.”  Really cool piece tied into the earliest part of the century’s baseball programs, wonderful companion to a 19thc baseball collection.  Measures 5″ x 7″ and is framed in gold, red, blue archival acid free mats and framed in a leaf embossed walnut frame.  Perfect for any office.
